With kind permission from the Ministry of Defence, Boskalis Westminster are hosting a CEDA UK visit to the current 3 million m³ capital dredging project at Portsmouth. The Boskalis Project Manager, Gerrit-Jan van den Bosch, will give a presentation and boat tour of the harbour.

This project, in the Portsmouth Naval Base, includes capital dredging of the approaches, harbour entrance, turning basin and berth pocket, and will enable the new Queen Elizabeth Class aircraft carriers to operate from the port. The works are being undertaken using a combination of backhoe dredgers, trailing suction hopper dredgers and crane barges from the Boskalis fleet. Gerrit-Jan will also describe the innovative methods and technology adopted for location and removal of debris and obstructions from within the dredge area.

Gerrit-Jan van den Bosch has over twenty five years’ experience managing major dredging, coastal and marine construction projects throughout Europe, South America, Nigeria and the Far East.
