This Young CEDA event is open to all (non CEDA members welcomed) and is a free event. We hope that it will provide a useful and interesting discussion on the topic of Contaminated Sediment. It also provides a good opportunity for networking and meeting those involved in CEDA in the UK and is aimed at anyone working or studying in a related field.

Contaminated sediment is present in most waterways and harbours across the UK and Ireland. When left insitu it does not pose an environmental threat, but when the material is to be dredged the mobilisation of contamination can have serious environmental impacts. The resultant legislation can result in extremely high dredging and disposal costs for clients. This seminar will discuss a range of methods of dredging and disposing of contaminated sediment as well as explore the impact of decisions made during the project development phase. This information should help all parts of the project development cycle improve environmental safety whilst reducing costs.

Joanne manages the CIRIA award winning contaminated land programme. Joanne has been involved in over 40 good practice guidance documents, and was Project Manager for the CIRIA report C733 Asbestos in soil and made ground.

Marlies has graduated at Van Oord on the spreading of polluted sediment around the U-864 wreck. After being introduced in various aspects of the dredging, offshore and offshore energy projects within Van Oord during the traineeship she recently started her career within the Environmental Engineering department.
