WODCON - walk in the park

2022-05-25

The Walk in the Park to which WODCON participants were invited turned out to be a great success. Those who joined for this excursion to Ishøj park were received by Wastewater & Climate Adaptation specialists of the municipality of Ishøj. In a relaxed atmosphere they explained how the dredging of 10.000m³ of contaminated sediment from the silted lake was part of a holistic view on the park’s future role for the community. The impact of the dredging activity on the quality of living in its surrounding had been minimized in time, odour and sound. Also it was estimated that the carbon footprint of the total project was cut in half because of the local use of sediment. So much for sustainability. To personally enjoy a walk in the sunset along a site where contaminated sediments lay unnoticeable, since encapsulated by membranes and immobilized in TenCate Geotube® dewatering and containment units, was a very convincing part of this inspiring and enriching experience. The visit itself was set to last no longer than 20 minutes, but due to the lively interest shown in the topic of use of contaminated sediment in this actual setting, we couldn’t return to the bus before a good hour was spent in a pleasant atmosphere. The presence and exchange of experience with the towns ‘specialists, certainly contributed to this success.
