News - Outstanding Contribution Award // os5.2.jpg (136 K)In recognition of his outstanding contribution to the UK dredging industry, Farrell McCullough was presented with CEDA UK’s first ever ‘Outstanding Contribution Award’.  The award recognises individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the UK dredging industry, for example, by years of service, promotion of the industry or contribution towards inspiring, informing or founding best practices and innovation in the industry.

Farrell started working in the dredging industry around 1965, where he was first employed by “London Dredging” on the bucket dredger “Stewart Clan”.  Whilst working for “London Dredging”, which was eventually absorbed within the Boskalis group, Farrell worked mainly on the Thames and in Harwich, but also spent time in Nigeria.  Around 1975, Farrell joined “Nash Dredging”, this later becoming part of what is now the Van Oord group.  Subsequent to this move, the final one in his career, the majority of Farrell’s time was spent managing Van Oord’s operations on the Thames and Medway, in particular the coordination of water injection dredging activities.  Having worked within the UK dredging industry for over 55 years, Farrell is a most worthy recipient of CEDA UK’s first outstanding contribution award.

Jamie Gardiner, Chair of the CEDA UK Committee, said:

‘Whilst winners of future awards will be decided following a request for nominations, as soon as the Committee decided to grant the award, we decided that the first award should be given to Farrell, to honour his outstanding contribution to the UK’s dredging industry.’

The award was presented by Paul Hesk, Managing Director of Van Oord UK Ltd., long standing CEDA UK Committee Member, and preceded CEDA UK’s annual December drinks reception.

Nominations for this years’ award will open in October 2022.  The award is open to all levels of participants, currently employed or who have retired within the past 3 years, with an emphasis for rewarding those individuals who may otherwise receive limited formal recognition (for example project or support staff).  Nominees or sponsors do not have to be CEDA UK members.
