Young CEDA Belgium site visit to beach replenishment works, 24 March. REGISTER
Young CEDA Belgium young professionals and students to a dredging and beach replenishment site in Knokke on the Belgian coast. The restoration of the coastline is essential as the sand cliffs, caused by storm Dieter last month, are dangerous for visitors. The joint venture ‘Noordzee en Kust’, of which CEDA Corporate Member Jan De Nul is part of, was awarded the contract for the reclamation of almost one million m³ of sand. Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger (TSHD) Alexander von Humboldt is mobilised to execute these works along the beach of Knokke and Wenduine. Watch a short video about Alexander von Humboldt at work posted by another CEDA Corporate Member, the Hamburg Port Authority.
The project will be executed in a very short time, hence the short notice.
An excellent programme, a rare opportunity.
In the morning time, during high tide, participants will witness the vessel discharging a load of sand on the beach and in the afternoon the program continues with some presentations on Belgium’s future coastal ideas and general information on dredging. The programme will also include a guided visit on board of THSD Al-Idrisi. Lunch and the closing drinks which will offer further networking opportunities will be also on board of Al-Idrisi.
