CEDA UK - Southampton's Western Docks Channel Widening - Site Visit & Presentations

CEDA Members can download the presentations here, you need to SIGN IN firstOn behalf of Associated British Ports (ABP), Boskalis Westminster Ltd. is currently undertaking the capital dredging required to widen a section of the existing navigation channel within the Port of Southampton’s Western Docks.
Working within a busy port and environmentally sensitive area the channel will be widened by up to 46m over a length of 2,300m using a combination of trailer suction dredgers and the very large backhoe dredger ‘Magnor’. In total nearly 900,000m³ is expected to be dredged to bring the area to full design depth.
The site visit will consist of a series of presentations by ABP and Boskalis Westminster followed by a trip on our crew boat to the working area to see the ‘Magnor’ (visitors will remain on our launch and not be permitted to board the dredger).
The provisional agenda for the visit and approximate timings will include:
1200 Hrs Welcome & Introduction from CEDA UK followed by presentations by ABP & Boskalis Westminster
1300 Hrs Lunch (will be held concurrently with the boat trips)
1300 Hrs Trip 1 to the working area (max 10 persons)
1400 Hrs Trip 2 to the working area (max 10 persons)
1500 Hrs Close
Places are strictly limited to 20 persons due to the passenger numbers aboard our crew vessel and can be booked on a first come first served basis.
Each delegate must provide their own PPE consisting of safety boots, hard hat and high vis jacket if they wish to board the launch for a trip to the working area (lifejackets will be provided).
