On Friday 7 January 2022, at 17:00 CET, please join CEDA for a webinar to highlight the 23rd World Dredging Congress & Expo (WODCON XXIII) from May 16-20, 2022 in Copenhagen, Denmark.

WODCONs provide a unique platform for researchers and practitioners, from academia, government, and business, to exchange knowledge and experiences, present research results, spark new ideas and explore collaborations. 

Under the intriguing tag line: ‘Dredging is Changing” CEDA is preparing THE triennial world dredging event from the 16th till the 20th of May 2022. 

The challenges, responsibilities and opportunities of our dredging industry community will give you the necessary impulses. Novel developments in adaptation to climate change, techniques, multipurpose approaches, dredging contracts, stakeholder inclusion, public/private engagement will give you a head start in your business. It promises to become an unforgettable mix of networking, state-of-the-art knowledge transfer, technical sessions and visits. All set in the background of beautiful and peaceful Copenhagen in the brilliant conferences facilities of the Tivoli Congress Center.

With a selection of speakers from around the world, cutting-edge studies, research, experiences and procedures will be presented, alongside exciting innovative sessions and simulation-based workshops. In summary, the main objective of WODCON XXIII is to ensure international excellence in dredging.

Bios of presenters:

Johan Pennekamp is a specialist / expert at the Ecosystems and Sediment Dynamics Department of Deltares and carries 37 years of experience in this field. He received his Master’s degree in Fundamental Civil Engineering from the Delft University of Technology in 1983. His key qualifications are related to dredging -; offshore - and tunnelling technologies; environmental impact of dredging activities; innovation of dredging techniques and - concepts. His professional career involved fundamental and innovative research; specialist advice and state-of-the-art consultancy; waterbed armouring solutions; trenching technology and passive dewatering technologies as volume reduction technology. With these topics he worked for a variety of international clients in the dredging industry; the tunnelling industry; the mining industry; the shipping industry and the energy sector. He occupies prestigious positions in internationally recognized organizations such as Vice President of the Central Dredging Association. He is an associated member of the Industrial Counsel for Oil; Gas and Renewable Energy (IRO) in the Netherlands.

Cees van Rhee Since 1985 Cees van Rhee has been engaged with research for the dredging industry. The first five years at WL|Delft Hydraulics (presently Deltares) and from 1990 to 2007 at Van Oord; a dredging contractor. At Van Oord he was employed at the Research Department; Estimating Department and worked for two years in Hong Kong where he was responsible for the Production and Planning of one of the large land reclamation projects that were executed at that time. From 1997 – 2001 he was posted for two days per week at the TU Delft where a PhD-research program; financed by the large Dutch dredging contractors; was executed. End of 2002 the author obtained his PhD degree. From 2004 – end 2007 he was head of the Dredging Research dept. of Van Oord Dredging and Marine Contractors. Since October 2007 he is a professor Dredging Engineering at Delft University of Technology. His main scientific achievements are modelling of highly concentrated sediment-water flows and high-velocity erosion of granular sediments.

For more than 40 years Claus Iversen has been mainly engaged as Contract Director for various large-scale marine-related infrastructure projects in Denmark as well as abroad. Graduated as Msc. in Hydraulics and Coastal Engineering at the Danish Technical University. Major assignments have included dredging and reclamation projects for navigation channels in Nigeria (1981 - 1983), a new island Sprogø as a connection link for the 18 km Great Belt Link to be followed by the tunnel trench dredging and reclamation of the island of Peberholm for the Øresund Fixed Link. From 2005 - 2008 he was the superintendent responsible for the supervision of the construction of the deepest immersed tunnel in the world under the Bosporus. From 2008 - 2021 he was engaged in Femern A/S as Construction Manager, Marine Works involved in the preparation and permit application for the construction of the Fehmarnbelt Fixed Link, the immersed tunnel between Denmark and Germany. In between, he has been posted as an expert consultant to UNDP in Vietnam, to FAO in South Korea as well as to the Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA) in Sri Lanka and Egypt. Claus Iversen is, for many years already, an exceptionally active member of CEDA contributing inexhaustible in various committees and task forces of CEDA.
