At 14:30 we will visit Port of Bristol's Cutter Dredger "Trym" and Plough Vessel "Graham Robertson".

The ‘Trym’ is a state-of-the-art cutter suction dredger designed for efficient, eco-friendly dredging, ensuring safe navigation and supporting the Port’s sustainability goals. Equipped with a rotating cutter head, Trym is highly efficient at breaking through seabed mud, churning it up, and redistributing it back into the estuary. Each year, she is capable of moving over a million cubic meters of mud from the docks. Aligned with the Port’s commitment to sustainability, Trym operates with highly efficient diesel-electric engines that are currently powered by biofuel, significantly reducing carbon emissions by approximately 90% compared to traditional diesel engines. Additionally, she utilizes environmentally friendly biodegradable hydraulic oils. Her modular design positions her for future upgrades, enabling the integration of green technologies and zero-emission fuels, further supporting the Port’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2040.

The ‘Graham Robertson’ is a Damen Shoalbuster 2308S, modified to take on a multi-functional role including plough dredging, towing, pilotage and survey duties.
