Abstract: I take double pleasure in having been invited to speak at the start of the CEDA Dredging Days conference 2009. Firstly it is a great opportunity to increase my own knowledge of an area of the industry with which I have no first hand experience - I am looking forward to formal and informal opportunities to learn. Secondly, it is an opportunity to express the pleasure with which ICS received the news a couple of years ago that the European Dredging Association had decided to become a member of ICS. It has given us a welcome new dimension.
