Abstract

"The emission of greenhouse gases, GHG, is becoming a main concern within construction industry activities and has been for a number of decades. The construction industry contributes to a large proportion of the world's carbon footprint. It is crucial for the industry to act on the climate issue and contribute to the green transition. This includes dredging and reclamation construction activities. During the initial planning phases and in development of the Scope of Work Femern A/S, the Owner, has provided a climate inventory within the Environmental Impact Assessments. The climate inventory is further enhanced by introducing a climate budget for execution of the Project, split into the specific Scope of Work, i.e. Dredging and Reclamation. The Inventory provides a baseline for structuring the budget across the various construction activities needed to realize the complete Tunnel structure. The first step is to dredge the Tunnel Trench. This paper details how the climate inventory baseline budget is reviewed, updated and managed on a periodical basis during the complete lifecycle for all Scopes of Work. The paper details the climate control measures undertaken to ensure the climate budget can be complied with and efficiently deal with the project climate targets. The paper details the following: • Forecast for Greenhouse gas emissions in Environmental Impact Assessment, EIA. • Climate strategy for promoting, initiating and implementing low carbon solutions. • Monitoring GHG emissions during Dredging and Land Reclamation Works. • Follow up on climate budget during construction. • Continuous identification of opportunities to control GHG emissions. • Measures to control GHG emissions. • Environmental product declarations, EPD, to ensure best available and as low as reasonably possible carbon footprint. The data acquisition and calculation of the carbon footprint, on monthly basis, summarizes the performance in relation to what is expected from planned construction operations and the targets set up for carbon footprint."
