Abstract: The effectiveness of compressed air conveyance of sabulous soil was confirmed using a compressed air injection system installed at the midway of a long distance pipeline laid on land. The system was used as alternative booster equipment for an intermediate assist pump in actual dredging work using the Asia Maru No. 3, a cutter suction dredger. The tests proved (1) effectiveness of compressed air injection using air compressors, (2) solution of soil settlement and accumulation by compressed air injection, (3) improvement of the pressure loss by plug flow assisted by compressed air despite existence low velocity phase region, and (4) expression of the pressure loss equation of plug flow during conveyance.
