Abstract: Located in Changchun, Jilin Province, P.R.China. Nanhu Lake is an urban park eutrophic water body. Sediment dredging had been employed in practice since 2000. This paper studies the effects of the sediment dredging. Based on the monitoring data of post-dredging in 2002 and data collected of pre-dredging in 1998, the water quality of Nanhu Lake was analyzed by applying a Factor Analysis method which comprehensively considered ten indices of water quality. Results showed that Total Phosphorus, TP was the most important factor before sediment dredging, and the role of Suspended Sediment, SS increased after sediment dredging. Moreover, results also identified that the method was comprehensive and efficient in analyzing the water quality resulting from both pre- and post -dredging.
