Abstract: "Hakusan" is Japan's latest trailing suction dredger with oil recovery equipment constructed byIHI Marine United for the Hokuriku Regional Development Bureau, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure andTransport, Japan and delivered in 2002. The dredger is also one of the world's largest class oil recovery vessel.
The vessel is usually operated as a dredger to maintain seaways in Shinano-River in Niigata prefecture. Shouldan oil leakage accident occur, the vessel can act as an oil recovery vessel in coastal area of Japan, including inports and harbors. To achieve both missions, the vessel is equipped with two drag-arms with drag-heads atship's side and two different types of oil recovery systems with oil collecting equipment . Also the vessel isequipped with latest automated equipments and the control system for dredging, oil recovery, propulsion,mooring, etc. This paper will introduce the outline of this unique dredger, and also dredging results afterdelivery.
