Abstract: The technique of using sand-filled sacks has been developed from practical engineering experience in tidal sea areas or river shallows. Where structures require components that have a large capacity and need to be heavy in weight, sand-filled sacks can perform functions such as protecting shorelines from eroding swells and waves, protecting soil and sand filling while allowing a certain degree of water drainage. The technique can be adopted for closing off certain sections during reclamation works, for the construction of enclosed dykes and blocking up gaps in dykes in areas that are being filled.
