Abstract: The volumes of materials which are actually dredged in various hydrosystems for ecological or socioeconomic necessities are more and more important. For the most contaminated sediments, traditional ways ofstorage seem to be inappropriate or hazardous in many situations without onerous management. In this context, the management of contaminated sediments necessitates alternatives : technological development and socioeconomical interests for this subject have led to the development and proposal of physico-chemical treatments fordredged sediments. The Novosol process actually developed by the Solvay company is aimed at the destructionof organic pollutants and the neutralization of mineral pollutants. The efficiency of this method could be avaluable argument for valorisation of dredged sediments in various ways. Preliminary investigations focused onthe behaviour of treated materials in environmental (water deposit) ways of valorisation, that are being developedthrough an interdisciplinary research program (started in 2003) undertaken in partnership with scientific andsocio-economic interested parties. Various points of view, methodologies and tools are associated to give acomplete assessment of oriented scenarios of management for treated sediments.
