Abstract: Within the framework of its policy of the country’s economic and social development, the Kingdom of Morocco pays particular attention to the sectors of construction and public works.

Sand is a strategic product for this industry. It is essential for the development of the infrastructures of transport, housing, commercial and industrial activities, health, education, leisure and other aspects of modern life.

The sand market, provisioned today mainly by the littoral dunes, knows several constraints, which are likely to hinder the country’s economic and social development, among which, in particular, an irregular provisioning in volume and quality, an increasingly large deficit of sand supply, and a negative impact on the environment.

In order to ensure regular provisioning of sand to the market, while preserving the environment, the Government laid down a new policy based on research, mobilization of alternative resources to littoral sand dunes, and the set up of a new legal framework.

The Project RIMAL of DRAPOR falls under this new policy. It will allow the public works and construction trade to be supplied out of dredged sand in a regular way in quality and volume. By preserving the environment, this project is also inscribed, within the Morocco policy of sustainable development framework.
