Abstract: The Port 2000 operation, the introduction of which started in March 2006, was initiated thanks to the will of the French State to position Le Havre as the main gate for the entry of the flows of containerized goods.

This very great harbour operation has also been the occasion for the initiation of the environmental renovation of the Estuary of the Seine.

The conference will focus on this environmental renovation by presenting, in particular, two operations :

The renovation of mudflats in the Estuary of the Seine : this operation, carried out from 2003 to 2005, was innovating on more than one account. In addition to the achievement of a speak by Re-using the materials resulting from the dredging of Port 2000, it saw the digging of an environmental channel (1,5 mm3) the design/construction of which was associated with reinforcement works of protections of the piers of the Northern viaduct of the Normandy Bridge and with works on the Northern Low dyke of the navigation channel of the Rouen port. The Final objective being the recreation of a hundred hectares of stable mudflats in the central part of the Estuary of the Seine, at the Normandy Bridge,

The execution of a small post island in the Seine

A complex island was designed for the hosting of marine birds, then achieved out of the products resulting from the dredging of the channel of Port 2000 which is protected by ripraps. This island, of approximately 5 ha, all in one block in low tide, forms, in high tide, 3 emerging islands of a total surface of 1,5 ha. These 2 operations are particularly emblematic of all the environmental measures accompanying the achievement of the new container port of Le Havre, the total budget of these environmental measures amounts to 46 M€.
