Abstract: Starting entrepreneurs in the dredging business are often faced with the question which machine can best be obtained for their purpose.

A variety of equipment is available when talking about stationary dredging equipment. Power ranges from 300 hp to huge heavy duty rock cutting dredgers. Maximum dredging depth may range from 6 to say 40 meter. This presentation will deal with the parameters in choosing the right equipment for the job, focussing on small to medium sized stationary (cutter) suction dredgers. Influence of soil characteristics, site conditions, etc. on the dredging process will be highlighted.
