We are pleased to announce that Marc Sas will be the new chair for the MSFD Navi Group

Marc is a senior engineer with over 40 years of experience in coastal, port and marine engineering. He is an experienced project manager having managed and advised numerous port and marine projects around the world related to his field of expertise. As a specialist in hydrodynamic and cohesive sediment transport modelling, he conducted a number of studies for the development of the port of Antwerp.  He was in charge of numerous field measurement campaigns in Belgium and abroad collecting data for dredging and marine studies. He has built up a wide experience in environmental aspects of dredging, especially turbidity around dredging activities.  He was in charge of many projects dealing with the design of marine infrastructure: breakwaters, coastal defences, LNG terminals, intakes, outfalls, landfalls of offshore pipelines and offshore wind farms. He retired from IMDC in 2021.

Marc is a member of IAHS, HTG, CERF, CEDA and PIANC and has co-authored several PIANC guidelines. He is an international expert for the tidal restoration of the Bay of Mont Saint Michel (France) and for the morphodynamics and ecological restoration of the Rance estuary (France).  He is a member of the board of directors of the ONG Join for Water and supports Ti Soley Leve (Haiti).

We would like to thank Marc for his candidacy and wish him all the best in this new role.

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank Frederik Roose for taking on the role of Chair in the interim period and to thank Volker Steege for his many years of service in this group and to wish him a long and healthy retirement.
